3-DAY / 2-NIGHT ERG CHEBBI DESERT TREKKING EXPEDITION

Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights Location: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Dunes, Sahara Desert, Morocco Trekking Level: Moderate Accommodation: 2 nights in a traditional mobile desert camp Experience: Camel trekking, walking through the dunes, desert camping, nomadic lifestyle, sunset, sunrise and stargazing Overview Experience the Sahara far beyond the typical one-night desert camp. This 3-day / 2-night desert trekking expedition takes you deep into the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes of Merzouga, where you will travel through the desert with camels and an experienced local desert guide. Instead of staying in the same permanent camp for both nights, this expedition uses a mobile desert camp. Each day, the camp crew travels with the caravan, and the camp is set up in a new location deep among the dunes. This allows you to experience the Sahara as a true desert expedition — surrounded by dunes, silence and open skies, far from the busy areas around Merzouga.

DAY 1 – MERZOUGA → DEEP ERG CHEBBI DUNES
Merzouga – Camel Caravan – Desert Trekking – Mobile Camp Your adventure begins in Merzouga, where you meet your local desert guide and camel team. After a short briefing, you leave the village behind and enter the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. The first part of the journey is a combination of camel trekking and walking through the dunes, depending on your preference and fitness level. Travel deeper into the Erg Chebbi, crossing high dunes and remote sandy valleys while learning about the desert environment, camels and traditional nomadic life. A picnic lunch is served in the desert beneath the shade of an acacia tree or in a sheltered area among the dunes. In the afternoon, continue deeper into the desert. As the sun begins to descend, arrive at your first remote camping location. The crew prepares your mobile desert camp, with traditional tents arranged in the middle of the dunes. Enjoy: Sahara sunset Traditional Moroccan tea Dinner prepared in the desert Campfire Berber/Sahraoui music and drumming Stargazing under the clear desert sky Overnight: Mobile Desert Camp – Deep Erg Chebbi Meals: Lunch & Dinner
DAY 2 – DESERT EXPEDITION & NOMADIC EXPERIENCE
Deep Erg Chebbi – Dunes – Nomadic Area – Mobile Camp Wake up early for a spectacular Sahara sunrise from the top of a nearby dune. After breakfast and Moroccan tea, begin the second day of your expedition. Today is the heart of the trek. Travel deeper through the Erg Chebbi, crossing different landscapes of golden sand dunes and remote desert areas. The route can be adapted according to the group’s fitness level, weather conditions and desert conditions. You can choose to: Walk through the dunes, accompanied by the guide and camel caravan, or Ride the camels for sections of the journey. Around midday, stop for a traditional desert picnic and time to rest. In the afternoon, continue toward a remote area where you may have the opportunity to meet a local nomadic family and learn about traditional desert life, depending on the location and seasonal conditions. Enjoy Moroccan tea and discover how nomadic families live, travel and survive in this harsh environment. Later, return deeper into the dunes. The camel team and camp crew move ahead and establish your second mobile camp in a new remote location. This evening offers a completely different desert atmosphere. Enjoy dinner around the campfire, traditional music and an unforgettable night beneath thousands of stars. For those who want an authentic experience, you can also spend some time outside the tent under the open Sahara sky. Overnight: Mobile Desert Camp – Deep Erg Chebbi Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
DAY 3 – SUNRISE TREK → MERZOUGA
Mobile Camp – Sunrise – Erg Chebbi Dunes – Merzouga Wake before sunrise and climb a nearby dune to watch the first light appear over the Sahara. After breakfast, begin the final stage of your desert expedition. Follow the camel caravan across the dunes, gradually making your way back toward Merzouga. Enjoy the final opportunity to walk barefoot on the warm sand, take photographs and experience the silence of the Erg Chebbi. Continue across the dunes until you reach the meeting point near Merzouga. Arrive in Merzouga where you can shower, change clothes and relax after the expedition. End of the 3-day / 2-night Erg Chebbi trekking experience. Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is a genuine desert trekking experience, not simply a camel ride to a fixed camp. The exact route and camping locations may change according to weather, temperature, sand conditions and the location of the mobile camp. Participants should be reasonably fit and comfortable walking on sand. The itinerary can be adapted between walking and camel riding according to the group’s ability. For the best experience, we recommend comfortable walking shoes, light clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf, a reusable water bottle and a small overnight bag. Best period: Generally from October to April, when desert temperatures are more comfortable. Summer conditions can be extremely hot.
“Super beautiful, well done! If you are looking for a magical and romantic place then this is a great place to go! I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a good adventure!”
